Kathmandu, Aug 5: Record five-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her post.

According to Dhaka Tribune, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman confirmed the matter in an address to the nation on Monday afternoon.

Previously, a senior advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told AFP on Monday that the resignation of the embattled leader was a “possibility” after being questioned as to whether she would quit.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangabhaban at around 2:30 pm on Monday on a military helicopter, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana for a “safer place.”

According to sources, they were heading to West Bengal, India.
