EC puts expenditure cap for by-election candidates

Kathmandu, Apr. 6: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday put an expenditure cap for the candidates of the by-election slated for April 23.  According to the EC, a candidate  to  the House of Representatives (HoR) member in the by-election can spend maximum Rs. 3.1 million. 

EC’s Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said that a meeting of EC on Wednesday decided to put the expenditure cap  for the candidates of the by-election as mentioned in the Nepal Gazette of October 17, 2022. 

The EC has set a limit of Rs. 2.9 million for the candidates of Bara-2 and Chitwan-2 and Rs. 3.1 million for the candidates in Tanahu-1, EC said. 

The EC has also asked the candidates to spend in the election within the limit of the expenses specified by the Commission and submit the expenditure details within 35 days of the election results. 

According to the EC, the candidate has to submit the details of their election expenses through the candidate or the candidate’s representative to the concerned  district election office within 35 days from the date of the announcement of the election results in accordance with Subsection (4) of the Section 72 of the House of Representatives Election Act-2074.
