Kathmandu : Bagmati, Gandaki and Province1 have formed new governments following the Provincial Assembly elections held in November 2022. In Province1, Hikmat Kumar Karki of CPN-UML took the oath of office and secrecy from Province Chief Parshuram Khapung on Monday.
After taking the oath, Chief Minister Karki formed a four-member cabinet in the province. He appointed a minister each from the three other coalition parties and got the oath administered to them.Tilkumar Meyangbo of the CPN-UML, Bhakti Prasad Sitaula of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nirmala Limbu of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP) were appointed ministers.
Province Chief Khapung appointed UML’s leader Karki as the chief minister of Province 1 on Sunday as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution. Earlier, Karki had submitted the claim for the chief minister with the support of 60 out of 93 provincial assembly members.
Karki garnered the support of UML’s 40, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s 13, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s six and Janata Samajwadi Party’s one provincial member. However, the main ruling party CPN (Maoist Centre) did not attend the swearing-in ceremony today.
Meanwhile, CPN (UML)’s Parliamentary Party leader of Gandaki Province Khagaraj Adhikari has been appointed the Chief Minister (CM) of the province. Gandaki Province Chief Prithvi Man Gurung appointed Adhikari as the CM of the province as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution on Monday.
Out of 60 provincial members in the Gandaki Province, 33 members have supported Adhikari as the CM of the province. Those who supported him are: 22 members from UML, eight from CPN (Maoist Centre) two from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and an independent lawmaker, Deepak Manange.
Later on Monday, newly appointed Chief Minister Adhikari took the oath of office and secrecy from Province Chief Gurung. After the swearing-in, Chief Minister Adhikari has formed a four-member cabinet in the province. He appointed a minister each from the three power-sharing parties and got the oath administered to them.
Hari Bahadur Chuman of CPN (MC), Sita Sundas of CPN-UML and Pancharam Gurung of Rastriya Prajatantra Party were appointed ministers. However, the Chief Minister has not assigned any portfolio to them. In Bagmati Province CPN (Maoist Centre) Parliamentary Party leader of the province Shalikram Jamkattel has been appointed the chief minister of the Bagmati Province.
Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma appointed Jamkattel as Chief Minister of the Bagmati Province as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution on Monday. Of 110-member Provincial Assembly, Jamkattel has garnered the support of 70 provincial members of five political parties including CPN (MC), CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Hamro Party.
Chief Minister Jamkattel will be taking oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Province Chief on Tuesday.
