Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has revealed that he has recently shown generosity to the opposition (Nepal Communist Party-UML). He stated that when demonstrating generosity to the main opposition UML, he does not allow tensions to arise within the ruling coalition.
While inaugurating the building of Sunapati Rural Municipality in Ramechhap District of Bagmati province on Tuesday, Prime Minister Prachanda said, “This coalition will last the entire term. Don’t think about ifs and buts. There is no need to have any doubts.”
He expressed his desire for both the ruling and opposition parties to work together with intelligence to smoothly conduct parliamentary proceedings and peace processes. He said, “A few months ago when we formed committees in the federal parliament, we demonstrated generosity to the opposition, something that had not been done before.”
Prime Minister Prachanda stated, “In the opposition, there was a tradition of giving the position of committee chairperson to the party that is in opposition. The party in the opposition would chair the Public Accounts Committee. But this time, for the convenience of maintaining order in the House and easily advancing bills, we gave the chairmanship of three committees to the Nepal Communist Party (UML).”
He also mentioned that such decisions would not create any tensions within the coalition. He said, “There is no need to think that there will be any problems with this coalition. This coalition is not formed through minor sorrows and struggles; we have come together for the protection of the constitution, and we are fighting on all fronts, including parliament and the streets.”
He also addressed the issue of incorporating the UML’s into the ruling coalition during discussions on the National Assembly elections, which took place both on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in Baluwatar. However, Prime Minister Dahal did not elaborate on this matter during his speech in Ramechhap.
