Socialist Front divisions over MCC implementation and Oli’s sarcasm

Kathmandu: The message meeting scheduled to be held in Dhangadhi, Kailali of the Socialist Front on Wednesday has been postponed due to the dispute over the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project with the United States.

Netra Bikram Chand, who is affiliated with the Front, had been seen in favor of advancing with the MCC project ahead of the United States, but after discussions on this matter, it was decided that he would only participate in the joint program. Hence, the message Meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed.

On Wednesday morning, a meeting of the Front’s central committee was held in Baluwatar. In the meeting, Chand had expressed his disagreement with advancing with the MCC project. However, Prime Minister Prachanda had stated that he would not stop it or take it back.

“Prime Minister Dahal seems to be in favor of advancing with the MCC project. The main agenda of the Socialist Front is national independence and socialism. Prachanda’s inability to take a strong stance on the core issue has led us to the conclusion that we will not participate in the joint program,” said Chand’s Party leader Anil Sharma, who is also affiliated with the Front. “Whether to participate or not in the program scheduled for tomorrow, where discussions will be held on this matter, is yet to be decided.”

Unified Socialist Deputy Chairman Pramesh Hamal had announced that the gathering scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to Friday. “As the leaders are busy, today’s program has been postponed,” Hamal said, “This program will be held on Friday.”

The implementation of the MCC project is currently ongoing.

Oli satire

Meanwhile, Nepal Communist Party (UML) Chairperson K.P. Sharma Oli has stated that there is no valid interpretation for the 12-point declarative statement passed by the Parliament regarding the MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) agreement with American support.

While the immediate ruling party passed a declarative statement to appease the public, Oli has indicated that the MCC will not accept it. Although the MCC has been approved by Nepal’s Parliament, Oli has stated that it will be implemented.

“The statement passed by the Parliament will be implemented,” said Oli, “The 12-point statement is a false accusation. The false accusation given by them (the ruling party) is only a threat to the Nepali people. It’s just evidence of that threat.”

Oli has revealed that the 12-point declarative statement is part of the agreement. He said, “Regarding the 12-point declarative statement, the immediate Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said that MCC has agreed to it and that it’s part of the agreement. Speaking in Parliament, they gave a false statement, which was a threat, a lie, and would have negative consequences.”
