Smugglers are terrified of the government’s anti-corruption campaign: PM Prachanda

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has attributed the government’s anti-corruption campaign to the cracking down on state capture and the apprehension of cartels.

In a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, he revealed this during discussions on the budget for the fiscal year 2080/81 (2023/24).

“The government is standing against corruption, cracking down on state capture, and apprehending cartels. The public is in favor of the government’s steps towards fighting corruption,” stated Prime Minister Prachanda.

He also mentioned that the government remains and will continue to be committed to not sparing the guilty and not allowing impunity. Furthermore, he assured ministers that this government, the administrative system, and the entire structure are capable of change.

Prime Minister Prachanda conveyed that he intends to work with the ministers for a year in the context of “this government, the administrative system, and the structure being capable of change.” He emphasized that “We are aware of the situation in the country. The change we have committed to will be fulfilled to some extent. It’s not possible for the employees to fully meet the expectations of the public until we deliver results. We haven’t achieved as much as we could have in terms of outcomes and results, and the majority of the population has yet to experience the benefits of development.”

Addressing the fact that 30% of the population has been compelled to seek low-level jobs abroad, Prime Minister Prachanda remarked, “Once we commit, we achieve something. We are working towards illuminating the country, making the economy more accessible, strengthening relations with foreign countries, and engaging in international cooperation. We are progressing towards a brighter future.”
