MC Leaders Opinion : Party does not run according to the constitution

Kathmandu: Central members of the Maoist party have expressed dissatisfaction, saying that the party is not functioning in accordance with the party’s constitution. Since Wednesday, during the Central Committee meeting in Kathmandu, most of the members have pointed out the need to transform the party’s working style to be in line with the party’s regulations.

“We should run the party organization in accordance with the constitution and follow the rules and regulations. Ignorance of the constitution leads us nowhere. We may formulate policies at the conventions, but the problem lies in implementing them. The main issue is organizational, political, and ideological leadership even if we change our agenda,” said Balawati Sharma.

She explained that the failure lies in the implementation of laws, methods, and systems. “When we do not implement the plan according to its design, problems arise. Now, we need to elect leadership from the ward and cell committees. The one who goes to the field and wins people’s hearts will be elected. We must implement the formulated constitution,” he added.

Central member Ram Prasad Sapkota disagreed with the notion that others in the Maoist party are not liberal. He said that in the coming days, such a constitution will not work. “Now, let’s build the party, let’s make it revolutionary. Now we won’t lose our position to others. We will create the situation to win the election. We have lost people’s trust. The people are unhappy. We need to hold the convention within three months because there is no other party in the world as liberal as us. We will change as circumstances change,” he asserted.

Another central member, Ram Narayan Bidari, said that the leaders should be elected from the lower committees. He emphasized creating a party for farmers and laborers. “It’s been said that we are also to blame, and the party organization has not been good. We have lost the people’s trust. We spent more time in meetings, listening and being heard, indulging in politics, and urban affairs. We did not go to rural life,” he said. “There is one crucial point raised; now most positions should be elected. If elected, the workers will also go to villages and carry out works without any obstruction,” he added.

Tilak Mall, a central member, discussed the debate on concentrating leadership within the party’s socialist forces in the country. He mentioned building a more organized structure in the party in the coming days.

Keshav Raj Kunwar, a central member, highlighted the need to reform the leadership style. He mentioned the participation of people involved in corruption scandals inside and outside the party, and he called for strict actions. “The government has been actively dealing with corruption control, whether inside or outside the party. Anyone involved in such scandals must be dealt with strictly. This uproar should be taken as a warning. Even if it involves Maoist leaders, we must discourage giving support to such groups. The process of investigation should proceed impartially,” he said.
