We must create a 30-million-strong ‘National People’s Army’: Prachanda

  1. Call for a “National People’s Army” of 30 million Nepalis
    • The regular army and police alone are insufficient to defend against foreign intervention and national crises.
    • Nepal lacks the capacity to build missiles or ultra-modern weapons to fight major powers, but it has the strength of its 30 million people.
    • Direct quote:“Our army probably could not, even if it wanted to, protect our historical heritage. The army and police alone are not enough to defend national sovereignty… We don’t have the capacity right now to build missiles to fight big powers. But we do have the capacity to create a 30-million-strong national people’s army. If that happens, no power in the world can defeat Nepal.”
  2. Reference to the 24 Bhadra 2082 (9 September 2025) incident
    • Described the event as an “extraordinary crisis” in which historical heritage sites were burned and destroyed.
    • Claimed Nepal was almost in a state of anarchy for nearly two days.
    • Alleged conspiracies were afoot to either clean Narayanhiti Palace and restore the monarchy or stage a military takeover.
    • Stated that both he and Madhav Kumar Nepal were eyewitnesses to this crisis.
  3. Acknowledgment of the “Gen-Z” youth movement
    • Admitted that the recent youth-led protests shook the old political parties and forced self-reflection.
    • “The movement of Gen-Z youth has compelled us to introspect where we went wrong.”
    • Emphasized that ideology has no age: “We must be ready to learn from our sons, daughters, and grandchildren.”
    • Welcomed young people joining the party, saying many Gen-Z activists now consider the Nepali Communist Party as their guardian.
  4. Warning to the current interim government
    • This is only an election-conducting government and must not sign long-term treaties or agreements that have lasting consequences.
    • “If ministers in this government push forward long-term agreements, it will be against their mandate.”
    • Demanded the government create an environment for free, fair, and impartial elections.
  5. Personal challenge on age and fitness
    • Defiantly responded to critics questioning his age:“Is anyone ready to race with me? How many morning walks? I’m ready. How much heavy exercise? I want to do it with the youth… Don’t fall for the noise made by rootless, history-less, and ideology-less people.”
  6. Party’s future agenda
    • The newly unified Nepali Communist Party (formed by merging 16 communist factions) will lead the country toward scientific socialism, economic prosperity, and massive job creation.

Statements by Jhalanath Khanal (Senior leader)

  • Nepal has reached an extremely weak state due to domestic and foreign conspiracies despite 76 years of the communist movement.
  • After coming to power, leaders forget constitutional commitments such as radical land reform and agricultural revolution.
  • The new party has resolved to modernize agriculture.
  • Unity is not just “joining heads” but based on four strong principles:
    1. Marxism-Leninism as the common guiding ideology
    2. Completion of the bourgeois democratic revolution
    3. Leadership of the socialist revolution under this party
    4. Establishment of “Nepali-characteristic socialism”
  • Strategic goals: good governance, end of corruption, development, and turning all 14 districts of Koshi Province into a “red fortress” in the upcoming election.

Statements by Bhim Rawal (Senior leader)

  • Clarified his controversial remark from the previous day’s Pokhara rally where he accidentally said “Give majority to UML” instead of the new Nepali Communist Party.
    • “I have been saying the same thing for 50 years; my tongue slipped and said the old name.”
    • Mocked KP Sharma Oli and UML: “When one deviates from ideology and principle, one has to rely on proverbs and stay in Gundu (Oli’s residence).”
  • Accused the interim government of signing electricity agreements that will cause long-term loss to Nepal.
  • Demanded the government prioritize free and fair elections and recover weapons and ammunition still outside state control.
