Oli Govt. Removed the post of National Security Advisor

Kathmandu. The government has removed the post of National Security Adviser from the Security Council.

A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on Tuesday decided to revoke the guidelines on the appointment of the National Security Adviser. Shankar Das Bairagi was appointed as the National Security Advisor by previous Prachanda Led government.

Bairagi’s tenure as chief secretary was for three months. But Bairagi resigned from the chief secretary on May 2023 to make Baikuntha Aryal the chief secretary who was about to retire from the secretary.

On the same day, the cabinet decided to appoint Aryal as the chief secretary and Bairagi, who had resigned from the chief secretary, as the national security adviser of the Security Council.

After KP Sharma Oli became the Prime, according to the ruling party leaders, Oli said that he would not keep the post of National Security Advisor. Later, Bairagi was assured by the ruling Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba that he would be made the ambassador to India.

Bairagi also resigned from the post of National Security Advisor in the Security Council.

But Prime Minister Oli was not ready to make Bairagi the ambassador to India. Mr Oli agreed Dr. Shankar Sharma to continue.
