UML’s Suhang Nembang, the son of Subhas Nembang, won the by-election in Ilam-2

Kathmandu, Suhang Nembang of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) has won as the representative member of Ilam constituency number 2. In the final result of the by-election held on Saturday, Suhang emerged victorious with 27,772 votes. Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Bahadur Khadka stood second, securing 21,942 votes. Late Suvas Nembang Putra(Son) Suhang won with a lead of 5,830 votes over NC’s Dambar Khadka.

Similarly, Independent candidate Dakendra Singh Thegim received 14,457 respectable votes. He remained in third place. The candidate of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Milan Limbu, couldn’t gather more than 5,050 votes, hence his bail was seized. The percentage of votes he received was only 7.37% less than 10% of the total valid votes.

This by-election was held following the demise of elected member Suvas Nembang from the NCP (UML) on Saturday (27th Baisakh).

UML had fielded Suvas’s son Suhang in the electoral arena. Like his father, Suhang has secured victory in the constituency where his father had been winning for consecutive 25 years, opening the door of the Parliament House.

Suhang is also a lawyer. After his father’s demise, he was nominated as a candidate. He is also a member of the legal department of the UML.

He described this victory not only as his own but also as the victory of the entire all Ilameli community. He explained to journalists at the vote counting venue, “This is not only my father’s legacy, not only UML’s, this is the legacy of all Ilameli community.”
