Shooting of Ek Mutthi Badal concludes

Kathmandu, Apr. 15:The shooting of ‘Ek Mutthi Badal’ (My Share of Sky) led by writer and director Sahara Sharma with a predominantly female crew, has wrapped up.

This marks a significant stride in Nepali cinema, where gender disparities have long been prevalent, claimed the production team.

The production took place in Lamachaur and surrounding areas in Pokhara, spanning 22 days.

A 2021 study by Docskool and Plan International Nepal highlighted significant gender disparity within the Nepali film industry.

According to the findings, less than 10 per cent of women play leading roles in Nepali film production. Keeping this in mind, the production team has empowered women to lead in creative and technical roles, aiming to challenge existing gender inequalities.

Lin Dan served as the cinematographer for the film, marking his first Nepali feature film after working on three feature films in Vietnam.

Other key positions, such as production design, audio mixing, makeup, and costume design, were helmed by women like Yashasvi Sabharwal, Priyanka Gaekwad, Kirti Joshi respectively while Marna James served as the chief assistant director of the film.

Nikun Shrestha is the executive producer of the movie. Whereas, Abhimanyu Dixit, Anup Poudel, and Samipya Timalsena served as the producers.

Female actors takes the lead roles in the film, starring Aanchal Sharma, Nisha Sharma, Usha Rajak, Asmita Gautam, Bhima Mainali, Shekhar Chapagain, Manish Niraula, Gaurav Bista, Sahayog Raj Adhikari and others.

The engagement of diverse talents in both artistic and technical roles aims to empower women working both behind and in front of the camera, said the film unit.

The shooting commenced on March 8 on Women’s Day.

The film is scheduled for release next year.

Director Sahara Sharma expressed gratitude for the technical team and cast’s trust and tireless work, despite the challenging production process.
