DPM Lamichhane, British envoy Fenn discuss cooperation, reconstruction

Kathmandu, Mar. 29: British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday.

In a meeting held on Thursday morning at Singha Durbar, they discussed Nepal-United Kingdom ties. 

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the UK in the development of infrastructure, social upliftment, and capacity building of government and non-government bodies in Nepal over a hundred years of close relations, according to the DPM’s secretariat.

The DPM also expressed his gratitude for the assistance, cooperation and coordination in disaster management and recruitment of Gurkha soldiers, among others. 

On the occasion, DPM Lamichhane expected more coordination and cooperation with the British government in strengthening democracy, adaptation to climate change, social inclusion, social discrimination and reduction of deprivation, according to Pramod Neupane, one of the members of the secretariat of DPM Lamichhane.

Ambassador Fenn said that the British government would provide grants for the reconstruction of the structures damaged by the Jajarkot earthquake.

Similarly, Ambassador Fen informed the Minister for Home Affairs that he was in the process of bringing a new plan for Nepal’s development and construction partnership.

The Secretariat said that during the meeting, the ambassador assured that the UK government would address the issues raised by the ex-Gurkha soldiers.
