Forest fires increasing as dry season starts

Mar. 15: With the onset of pre-monsoon period, incidents of fire have begun to rise in the district. 

The Division Forest Office in Palpa reported three instances of fire in different locations within the district since the beginning of the pre-monsoon season.

The fire near Bhairabsthan temple in Ribdikot-4 of the district remains uncontrolled. 

The blaze, which has been raging in the Manchheep Community Forest near Bhairabsthan for two days, is out of control.

Tul Bahadur Adhikari, a local, expressed concern that due to the uncontrollable fire in the Manchheep Community Forest, there is a risk of its spreading to the nearby settlement.

According to the locals, although the forest fire was brought under control by the consumers of the local forest group, elected representatives, and security agencies, the fire spread again.

Samyog Basnet, Information Officer of the Division Forest Office in Palpa, said that a fire had spread an area of 10 hectares in the Manchheep community forest.

Likewise, a fire has erupted in the Tulsigaira Community Forest of Ribdikot-4, blazing an area of 13 hectares. 

Similarly, the fire in the Masure Community Forest of Ribdikot has ravaged 14 hectares of forest area, the Division Forest Office in Palpa informed.

According to the office, necessary preparations are being made to control the fires in the forest area.

Narayan Dev Bhattarai, Chief of the Division Forest Office in Palpa, said that efforts are underway to enhance public awareness regarding fire prevention and to investigate the causes of these forest fires.
