Cultural programmes held on the occasion of Women’s Day

Kathmandu, Mar. 8: Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) hosted a cultural programme including, dramas, songs, poetry recitation and live painting on the occasion of the 114th International Women’s Day on Thursday. 

Jointly organised by the Centre for Reproductive Rights, FWLD and other organisations, the programme ‘ Ma Bata Mahilabad” which translates to feminism from me has stressed providing access to reproductive health services equally during the time of disaster. The programme has given a creative message about reproductive rights during disaster time through drama staging, songs, poetry recitation, free speech and live painting.  

A play was staged with the message that access to reproductive health services for women is equally important along with the management of shelter, food and water during the time of natural disaster. On the occasion, Manu Adhikari and Sirish Shrestha presented poems and rap songs. 

The artists through the play imparted the message that Nepal’s constitutional and legal provisions should be implemented in practice for access and management of reproductive health rights during disasters. 

Similarly, artist Umesh Chandra Adhikari performed live painting after Jayanti Rai, President of the National Assembly’s Legislation Committee and Kiran Kumar Sah, the Chairperson of the Women and Social Affairs Committee of the Parliament drew the symbolic picture related to women’s reproductive rights. 

Chairperson of the FWLD and senior advocate Geeta Aryal said that it has put creative pressure by organising painting, drama, song and poetry recitation programmes to end all kinds of discrimination including reproductive health, employment, economic and social discrimination. Advocate Nabin Shrestha, said that information about legal rights, and reproductive health rights could be obtained through the Mero Adhikar app.

On the occasion, Manu Adhikari and Sirish Shrestha presented poems and rap songs.
