Why did the Congress-led Alliance break up? Prime Minister’s Reaction to point

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has stated that the Nepali Congress is responsible for breaking the recent alliance. Today, while answering crucial questions raised in Parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Prachanda discussed the decisions made in the Congress Central Committee meeting due to the lack of support from the Congress in the federal and provincial elections.

Prime Minister Prachanda said, “In the elections, while the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) supported the Congress at the level expected by the Congress, I did not receive support at the same level. This weakened mutual trust. Even after agreeing to give leadership to the Maoists in the government, the leadership was removed later. In one situation, after being re-allied, a group within the Congress rebelled in the Koshi Province. That group’s rebellion, which should have been punished for the morality of the alliance, was rewarded instead. In the National Assembly elections, that group even defeated the Maoist candidate.”

Prime Minister also mentioned in the Congress Central Committee meeting that criticism of the alliance was made without context. His statement is, “‘The alliance that made the Congress the first party also criticised the same alliance. ‘Four years before the elections, it was not politically right, either, to intimidate or humiliate the partners of the alliance.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Dahal expressed dissatisfaction with the campaign to collect signatures under the guise of hindu religion, keeping a stall in the Congress Central Committee meeting. He said, “In the Congress Central Committee meeting, by keeping a stall in the name of Hindu religion and conducting a signature campaign, the Congress jeopardised its commitment to the constitution.”

Similarly, Prime Minister Dahal also distributed a political report presented in the central committee meeting, stating that the Maoist insurgency has been internalised and the 2047 BS Constitution has been rectified. His statement raises concerns and doubts about past militant and ideological issues.

While mentioning his dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, Prime Minister also criticised the Congress for not receiving the expected support from some components of the alliance. He said, “I have sought a vote of confidence from this esteemed parliament, I had said this from the rostrum, ‘For the third time, when I took the name of Prime Minister, I did not display a photo of the next term on the throne or announce the retention of the post due to the lack of demonstrated capability or positive change in the country, my belief was announced.

He added, “In the third term, despite coming to power, I have not received the expected support from some components of the alliance. I had expected support from some components of the alliance.”

Prime Minister Prachanda highlighted the challenging path to prove himself even after coming to power with the National Independent Party. He said, “Newly formed National Independent Party colleagues also have significant representation in the government now. They had an easy option of doing street politics while sitting on the road, but they have to prove themselves by coming to power, and this is a challenging path they have chosen.” He said, “I have a big responsibility for their confidence in my leadership.”

Expressing confidence in expanding the scope of the new alliance and achieving governance goals in the same place, Prime Minister Prachanda also showed commitment. He said, “I pledge from all components of the alliance that our goal will not be to come to power, but governance, social justice, and prosperity. I believe, the respected parliament will take ownership of this.”
