Measles-rubella vaccine from today

Ghorahi, Feb. 25: Health authorities in Dang district have prepared to vaccinate 171,634 children aged nine months to 15 years old against measles and rubella in the district.

The government, from February 25 to March 20, is conducting a national vaccination campaign against measles and rubella. Children aged nine months to 15 years old in 24 districts – 21 Tarai districts and three districts of Kathmandu Valley – and those aged up to five years in the remaining district are getting vaccinated.

According to Kishor Acharya, the vaccination focal person at the Health Office, Dang, informed that there were 49,308 children aged below five years old in the district.

“We have designated 705 vaccination centres. The office will deploy 1,410 health personnel and 2,115 women health workers for the vaccination campaign,” said Acharya.

Acharya informed that the vaccination campaign will be organised in two phases in the district. 

“In the first phase, from February 25 to March 4, vaccinations will be provided at Ghorahi, Banglachuli, Lamahi, Rapti, Gadhawa and Rajpur local levels. In the second phase, from March 6 to 16, the campaign will reach Tulsipur, Dangisharan, Shantinagar and Babai local levels,” Acharya added.

Two phases of the vaccination campaign have been introduced to not leave behind any children of the 10 local levels in Dang.

According to health officials, Dang has been prone to measles and rubella, so the vaccination campaign would be very beneficial.
