Kathmandu, Feb. 23: The negotiations between Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for electricity trade between the two countries have progressed positively.
The two sides have agreed to sign power sales agreements between the two countries as soon as possible in order to export electricity to Bangladesh from the coming rainy season, according to the NEA.
A team led by Managing Director of the NEA Kul Man Ghising and the bid evaluation committee under the BPDB held a meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Thursday. The NEA’s team went to Dhaka on Wednesday with a proposal for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to export 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh
Ghising said that every point to be included in the electricity sale agreement was discussed in detail and it was agreed to conclude the agreement soon by finalising them.
“As requested by BPDB according to the regulation law, we submitted a bid with the quantity of electricity sales, we discussed in detail the points to be included in the proposal and the contract,” Ghising said.
“They also have to get approval from the higher authorities, and after completing the approval process as quickly as possible, an agreement has been reached to purchase electricity from Nepal from the next rainy season.”
The NEA has sent a proposal to Bangladesh to export electricity up to 40 megawatts during the six months of the rainy season from June 15 to November 15 every year.
Earlier, Bangladesh had decided to import 40 MW electricity from Nepal.
A five-year electricity sale agreement is going to be signed, said the NEA.
An agreement will be signed so that Nepal will export electricity from Berhampur- Bheramara transmission line of India through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 kV cross-border transmission line.
