Dharan, Feb. 13: Former British Gurkha soldier Subash Rai, a resident of Dharan, will be honoured with the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), the third highest civilian honour of the United Kingdom, for his outstanding contribution to the British government.

He is going to be honoured with a medal from King Charles III of England at Buckingham Palace in England. This is a prestigious title given only to special personalities in the UK.

Rai said that he was going to be honoured for his special contribution to the support and social work of the British government while he was in the British

Army and even after his retirement. Before this, personalities like English footballer David Beckham were honoured with this award. 

Rai joined the British Army in 1996 at the age of 21 and retired in 2014 after serving the British government for 18 years. Rai is still helping former British Gurkha soldiers who are in trouble.

After retiring from work, he has been active in politics along with social work. 

Currently, he is a Mahasamimti member of the Nepali Congress.

He said that the British Gurkha Brigade Band will perform at the Dharan 10K Run and at the Depot School for former British Gorkha soldiers. 

The British Gurkha Brigade band performs only on special occasions in the Kingdom.

The band performed at the Dharan 10K Run last year as well.
