6.4 magnitude earthquake, Jajarkot and Rukum West: 121 fatalities

Kathmandu: The number of people missing due to the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Gairathi, Jajarkot, and Rukum West has reached 121, according to the police. Jajarkot and Rukum West have lost at least 121 lives due to the earthquake.

“A medical team, along with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, has reached the earthquake-affected areas for rescue and treatment.”

“In Bheri Municipality of Jajarkot, only 35 people have lost their lives. According to the Mayor of Bheri Municipality, Chandraprakash Gharti, there are currently 30 bodies in the health department, while five bodies have been stored in the mortuary.”

“Ward numbers 1 and 3 have suffered the most damage. Due to the blocked roads in Bheri Corridor and other areas, there are challenges in rescuing those affected.”

“According to the initial information, in Bheri Municipality alone, more than a hundred people could have gone missing, as mentioned by the Mayor Gharti. Most of the physical structures in the municipality have been damaged.”

“Likewise, in Jajarkot’s Nagalagad Municipality, more than 50 people have been reported missing due to the earthquake.”

“According to the Mayor of Nagalagad Municipality, Dambar Bahadur Rawat, information has been received about more than 50 people missing recently. Ward number 1 has suffered the most human casualties. In that ward, 30 to 35 people have been affected.”

“Roads have been blocked in various places, and the lack of communication has made rescue efforts challenging. The details of the incident are still being collected.”

“Similarly, in Rukum West, there have been 36 deaths due to the earthquake, while more than 85 have been reported missing. The latest update was provided by the District Police Chief Namraj Bhattarai of Rukum West.”

“In Rukum West, eight municipalities have been severely affected, including Athbiskot Municipality, Chaurjahari Municipality, and Sani Bheri Rural Municipality. The earthquake has displaced homes and settlements, and roads have been blocked.”
