Kathmandu: Thirteen Nepalis and six Indians have been reported missing in the recent landslide at Gaurikund, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India. The landslide occurred during heavy rainfall.
In the main access point to Kedarnath, the landslide has buried three hotels that were being operated by Nepalis. Among the missing are seven members of a family from Patarasi-3, Jumla, including 28-year-old Amar Bohora, his 26-year-old wife Anita, their 14-year-old daughter Radhika, 8-year-old daughter Pinky, 7-year-old son Prithvi, 6-year-old son Jatil, and 3-year-old son Vikil.
According to the information provided by Kulendra Singh Rawat, the in-charge of the temporary police post at Gaurikund, three Nepalis’ bodies were found on Friday evening. Their identities have not been confirmed.
In addition to the Nepalis, two people from Patarasi-2, 22-year-old Chandra Nepali, and 55-year-old Dhanraj Buddha, and six people from Humla, including Sukharam Rawat, his wife Sumitra, and daughter Nisha, have also been reported missing in the same landslide.
According to Amar’s widow, Shreeram Thapa, Amar had opened several hotels around Gaurikund and had left his three sons and daughters in the village. However, he had brought them with him when he returned home the last January. The family was in the hotel when the landslide hit, resulting in their disappearance. The Indian media, along with the Indian authorities, have stated that the landslide swept the hotel into the Mandakini River, but there is no mention of any casualties among the missing.
The news of the Bohora family being missing has left their elderly father, Tarabahadur Bohora, deeply concerned for the safety of his entire family.
