Kathmandu : The Constitutional Council meeting has recommended Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha for the position of Chief Justice.
The meeting held on Wednesday evening proposed his name for the position, as informed by the Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.
The tenure of the appointed Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki will end on 5th August.
As per the provision that the process of recommending a new Chief Justice should begin a month before the retirement of the previous Chief Justice, his name has been recommended.
The process of appointing four members to the bodies, including the Auditor General, has also begun.
The government has moved forward with the process of appointing four constitutional bodies, including the Auditor General.
Decisions were taken in the Constitutional Council meeting to issue notices for the appointments of the Auditor General, Election Commissioner, members of the Natural Resources and Finance Commissions, and members of the Muslim Commission within 15 days.
The meeting that recommended Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha for the position of Chief Justice also informed the Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, that the appointments process in these four bodies will be advanced.
The agreement to appoint at least one member from these bodies within a month was also reached in the Constitutional Council meeting.
