Kathmandu July 25 : The Kerung-RasuwaGadhi railway is being built with cooperation, and announcements regarding the reduction of poverty, including financial help, have been made throughout the Chinese leader’s visit to Nepal.

Yuan Jiajun, a member of the Politburo, one of the powerful Chinese Communist Party’s 24 politburo members, enhanced the amicable ties between the two nations during his political discussions. They talked about strategies to enhance the inter-party relationship and support infrastructure development.
On the second day of his visit, Yuan spoke with Devraj Ghimire, the Speaker of the House, Sher Bahadur Deuba, the President of the NepaliCongress and former Prime Minister, and Narayanman Bijukche, the leader of the Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party. Yuan demonstrated interest in studying the Chinese language continually while conversing about politics, as shown by his visit to the LRI School in Kalanki.
Chinese leader Yuan announced a donation to Nepal of 8 million yuan (about 14 crore Nepalese rupees) during a meeting with Speaker Ghimire. The Speaker Ghimire emphasised Nepal’s potential for growth and prosperity during the amicable meeting at the Parliamentary Secretariat in SinghaDurbar. The Speaker Ghimire highlighted the potential for development and prosperity in Nepal through the Kerung-Rasuwaagadhi cross border rail connection.

“After the Speaker raised the issue of the railway, the Chinese leader Yuan agreed to support it,” said Press Spokesperson Shekhar Adhikari, who participated in the meeting. The Chinese government has sent a team to Nepal to study the feasibility of constructing the mentioned railway line, which is funded by China. The team is currently conducting the feasibility study.
The Speaker Ghimire said, “Following the state visit of President Xi in 2019, bilateral visits boost confidence in Nepal’s development and prosperity. Nepal and China have been exchanging parliamentary visits and expanding cooperation.” Last year, the President of the National People’s Congress of China, Li Zhanshu, visited Nepal. Just a month ago, Nepal’s Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, also visited China.
Meeting with the leader of the main party, including the president, speaker, and prime minister
Chinese leader Yuan mentioned that during President Xi’s directive, he visited Nepal to express China’s commitment to supporting Nepal in becoming self-reliant in food. While in Nepal, Yuan had an opportunity to visit the Maoist Vice-Chairman Agni Prasad Sapkota’s hometown in Sindhupalchowk, where the China-South Asia Poverty Alleviation and Development Cooperation Center’s “Vibrant Village” project has begun already. Chinese representatives have initiated the “Vibrant Village” project in Kumbinde village of Sanga Gaunpalika, Sindhupalchowk. Furthermore, China has expressed its interest in implementing similar programs in other regions of Nepal in the future, as mentioned by an official present during the program.

Visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Yuan visited the historical area of Bhaktapur, including Durbar Square and the fifty five-window temple. The locals warmly welcomed him, along with cultural performances. About a year ago, the Chief of CPC Foreign Affairs Department, Liu also toured Bhaktapur in a similar manner. After spending nearly an hour at Durbar Square, Yuan held a meeting with the Chairperson of NMKP, Narayanman Bijukchhe.
“In this meeting, they discussed the relations between the two countries, the relations between the people of both nations, as well as the relations between NMKP and CPC,” said NMKP Member of Parliament Prem Suwal, who participated in the meeting. “If our Chairperson had a positive impression of the relations between the two countries and the people, then there were also fruitful discussions on other matters.”
Chinese leader Yuan expressed his desire for the two nations to move forward together. Bijukchhe presented ‘Mayur’s Window,’ and Yuan gifted a ‘Ceramic Plate’ as tokens of mutual exchange.
Meeting with Deuba
Chinese leader Yuan met with Congress President Sher bahadur Deuba at the Marriott Hotel in the capital. Former foreign Minister Narayan Khadka and Congress National Assembly member Krishna Prasad Poudel also participated in the meeting. “The Congress President mentioned the historical relationship and deep friendship between Nepal and China and expressed the need to strengthen it further,” said Poudel. “He also thanked the Chinese leader for the support provided by China during Nepal’s previous development and the COVID-19 period.”

Deuba requested China to extend support to Nepal, as China has rapidly achieved economic development, and he expressed Nepal’s commitment to follow the Chinese model for progress. Chinese leader Yuan also mentioned that the relations between the two countries and parties need to be strengthened and hence extended an invitation to Deuba for a visit to China. Yuan also invited Speaker Ghimire for a visit to China.
Meeting Discussion with Oli
Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo member Yuan held a meeting with Oli at the party’s central office this morning.

During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral interests and engaged in discussions on different subjects. Party’s Deputy General Secretary, Bishnu Rimal, who also participated in the meeting, informed nepalpage about the talks.
Chinese Communist Party’s leader Yuan arrived in Kathmandu on July 22. He had a virtual dialogue with Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, who is currently in Italy.

In the course of his three-day visit, Yuan held discussions with President Ramchandra Poudel, Acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), and met with prominent Nepali leaders and officials.

In all these meetings, Chinese leader Yuan discussed how China could support Nepal’s development.
