Kathmandu July 23 : Politburo Member of the Chinese Communist Party, Yuan Jiajun has arrived in Kathmandu today on a three-day visit to Nepal.
A delegation Yuan heads is holding a courtesy meeting with President Ramchandra Paudel at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas. Also today, the Chinese Communist Party Politburo Member is paying separate courtesy calls on Acting Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka and Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, at Singha Durbar. Yuan arrived in Nepal on completion of his visit to Sri Lanka.
Regarding the subject of the meeting, discussions have taken place between the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and political parties. It has been stated that during the visit, there will also be discussions about Prime Minister Prachnda’s trip to China. Although the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit China in September.
On Sunday, it was announced that after Prachanda’s trip to China, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha would travel to the United Nations. The Nepali Embassy in Beijing and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are preparing for the visit despite the change in the scheduled date. Prachanda previously travelled to India as the Prime Minister, therefore this will be his first international journey since that time.
On Sunday, 24 members of the Central Politburo of the CPC arrived in Nepal on their visit. After a seven-member standing committee, the second powerful committee will be formed under the Central Politburo. He was previously only a Central Member of the CPC.
China has sought to strengthen bilateral relations by linking the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) programs, which have been ineffective in Nepal so far, with the two-party relationship between CPC and Nepali parties. In addition to the Yuan’s visit, there will also be discussions about the implementation of the BRI (previously known as One Belt One Road) and other initiatives taken by China since 2013.
