Kathmandu, July 14 : US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, visited Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Lu arrived in Kathmandu on Friday afternoon and visited Baluwatar to meet the Prime Minister.
Lu offered condolences to the late Sita Dahal in a photograph during his meeting with the Prime Minister.
During his visit to Nepal, which includes discussions on MCC implementation and other issues, Lu arrived in Kathmandu on Friday morning.
According to sources, Lu also visited the residence of President Deuba to meet him.
Lu also visited the headquarters of the CPN-UML to meet with the party’s Chairperson, KP Sharma Oli. In all these meetings, Lu inquired about the implementation progress of the MCC project,. approved by the Nepalese Parliament.

According to sources, during his meeting with the President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Assistant Secretary Lu discussed various issues, including strengthening Nepal-US relations. Lu also held talks with the CPN-UML Chairman, KP Sharma Oli, regarding PM Prachand’s upcoming visit to China.
Lu advised Nepal to exercise caution regarding China’s activities in Nepal, especially considering Prime Minister Prachanda’s upcoming visit to China. PM Prachanda scheduled to visit China in 3rd week of September 2023.
Assistant Minister Lu was accompanied by the US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, and officials from the US Embassy. While Lu had a one-on-one meeting with NC President Deuba, Oli held discussions at the delegation level. Along with Chairman Oli, Vice-Secretary-General Bishnu Rimel, Rajan Bhattarai, and Anjan Shakya also participated in the discussions.
Lu also had a one-on-one meeting with Foreign Minister NP Saud.
The discussions focused on the importance of maintaining the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and the exchange of high-level visits.
