Kathmandu July 12 : After the demise of Sita Dahal, the wife of Prime minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Puspakamal Dahal Prachanda, their two daughters, Renu and Ganga Dahal, are overwhelmed with grief. The daughters are emotionally distressed at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali Kathmandu. After their mother’s passing on Wednesday morning, Dahal, including the Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, arrived in Kathmandu. As soon as she arrived at the airport, she became emotionally distressed. Similarly, Ganga, along with her sister Renu, also became emotionally distressed.
With tears in their eyes, the daughters cried out, “Mother…” and were inconsolable. After their daughters became overwhelmed with emotions, Prachanda, who was nearby, made efforts to console and support them. Prachanda himself became emotional and placed his hand on his daughters’ shoulders, saying, “Now, don’t worry… I am with you all…” as he tried to console them.
Amidst Prachanda’s emotional state, the scene of him consoling his daughters was quite touching.
Sita Dahal had received treatment at various hospitals due to Parkinson’s disease for a long time. However, as her health complications increased, her condition became critical in recent times. Officials at the party headquarters who were responsible for taking care of her had been regularly updating Prachanda by phone about her medication and health status. They also mentioned that she had been spending quality time near Sita and taking care of her. This information was also shared by the officials who were taking care of her.
In addition to receiving treatment in India, Singapore, and the United States, Prachanda had also provided various treatments, including Ayurvedic medicine, within the country. In BS 2011, on Asar 21, Sita Dahal, who was born in Hemja, Kaski District, had married Prachanda. Since BS 2028, she had been actively involved in the communist movement, holding responsibilities in various districts, regions, and central bodies of the Maoist Center.
Having spent a long time during the People’s War and actively participating in the underground political activities since the onset of the armed conflict (from 2052 BS), Dahal had successfully managed the challenges, crises, disputes, and coordination within the party as a coordinating figure. Amidst the turbulent years of the People’s War, she had played a vital and unforgettable role in the party as a guardian of the ideological principles, with an elevated political consciousness, and with selfless dedication to the party, the people, and the nation.
The Maoist Center, acknowledging her contribution to the nation’s liberation and transformation, deeply mourns the irreparable loss for the party, the people, and the nation. She will remain a source of inspiration and a significant chapter in the remembrance and future books through her contributions. This statement was issued by the General Secretary of the Maoist Center in their condolence message.
The Maoist Center, along with Prime Minister and party chairman Prachanda, expressed profound condolences to the Sita family and conveyed deep sympathy to them, urging the general public to maintain patience and extending heartfelt appeals for endurance.
Various leaders from different parties also expressed their grief over Dahal’s demise, leading to the suspension of various formal and informal programs today. Dahal passed away at 8:33 am on Wednesday at Narayani Hospital.
