Nationwide shutdown of the movie ‘Adipurush,’ halted due to legal proceedings

Kathmandu June 19 : Due to the maintenance of peace and security, the demonstration of the movie ‘Adipurush’ has been halted not only in Kathmandu but also throughout the country. Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah, has prepared to stop the screening of the film in Kathmandu, and as a result, the distributor of the film, Manoj Rathi, has stated that the screening of the film has been halted nationwide.

“The screening of the film was canceled in Kathmandu and Pokhara until morning. After that, the process of halting the screening of the film in Dharan, Itahari, Janakpur, Dhangadhi, and Chitwan has continued. Now, the screening of the film has been stopped throughout the country,” said Rathi. Rathi is associated with Sri Venkatesh International Entertainment, the distributor of ‘Adipurush’ in Nepal.

Rathi claims that the controversy surrounding the film has caused a hundred percent loss to them. “We faced difficulties from the beginning of the film. The hall owners carried out their business as per the whims of the protesters on Friday. Now, we have suffered a complete loss,” said Rathi, “Now, if the hall owners themselves stop the screening of the film, we cannot do anything.”

The umbrella organization of hall owners, Film Association, has stated that they are preparing to take legal action. “We have not understood in which jurisdiction the work of halting a film that has already been censored falls. Has the federal government given us permission to screen the film, or have they not? Should we now seek permission from everyone? If they want to create chaos, we are considering going through the legal process,” said Bhaskar Dhungana, the vice-president of the association.
